Dr. Chame Blackburn

This Badge of Honor is awarded to Dr. Chame Blackburn,

Director of the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Program at Albany Medical Center Hospital

This February we join in global awareness efforts to address violence against women.  All throughout the month advocacy groups will highlight prevention efforts that aim at responding to and reducing intimate partner violence, teen dating violence, and sexual assault against women.

This month we award the "Badge of Honor" to Dr. Chame Blackburn, the director of the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Program at Albany Medical Center Hospital.  Dr. Blackburn oversees doctors and nurses at the hospital who encounter women, men, and children at the most vulnerable point in their lives.  It is her goal to ensure that every patient is treated with dignity and respect, and that practitioners follow the best practices throughout the evidence collection process after an assault.

Dr. Blackburn is also the co-chair of the Albany County Sexual Assault Resource Team, a position that enables her to coordinate with the multiple agencies that interact with a victim after an assault.  Through her role on the resource team she helps educate and network with first responders, law enforcement personnel, medical practitioners, crime victim advocates, crime laboratory technicians, as well as community based victim support service providers who each play an important role on the journey that a victim takes after reporting a crime.

Dr. Blackburn has worked in Albany Medical Center Hospital as an Emergency Medicine Physician since 2006.

Dr. Blackburn is an asset to victims and survivors in Albany County, and for that she deserves "The Badge of Honor."
