RENSSELAER, NY – The Office of Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that EDWARD FERGUSON, 28, of Nassau, was sentenced to 8 1/3 to 25 years in State Prison before the Honorable Debra A. Young in Rensselaer County Court this morning.
On February 9, 2017, FERGUSON was found guilty after a jury trial of (2) Counts of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, each Class B Felonies, (1) Count of Vehicular Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class C Felony, (1) Count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, (1) Count of Aggravated Vehicular Assault, a Class C Felony, (1) Count of Vehicular Assault in the First Degree, a Class D Felony, (1) Count of Assault in the Third Degree, a Misdemeanor, (2) Counts of Driving While Intoxicated, both Misdemeanors, (1) Count of Reckless Driving, a Misdemeanor, and traffic violations of Failure to Yield and Moving from a Lane Unsafely.
A jury found that on July 27, 2015, FERGUSON caused the death of his 28 year old passenger Christopher Sharpley, and also caused serious physical injury to the driver of another vehicle, 48 year old Terry Metcalf. FERGUSON was recklessly driving in an intoxicated state while operating a 2015 Nissan Altima when he crashed on State Routes 66 and 20 in the Town of Nassau in Rensselaer County.
Albany County Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Cheryl K. Fowler prosecuted this case acting as a Special Prosecutor.
