Delmar Man Sentenced in Child Pornography Case

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that MARVIN SONTZ, 61, of Delmar, was sentenced to 2 years in State Prison, to be followed by 10 years of Post Release Supervision, before the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin in Albany County Supreme Court this morning. Upon release, SONTZ will have to register as a sex offender.

On June 7, 2017 SONTZ pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Attempted Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child as a Sexually Motivated Felony, a Class E Felony.

In December 2016, an investigation was opened by the Bethlehem Police Department after it was reported that SONTZ sent suspected indecent material via an online app to a 14-year-old girl that was known to him. The investigation uncovered that on December 9, 2016, SONTZ did attempt to procure a photograph of a performance of a child in a sexual situation on the internet. The guilty plea fully covered and satisfied all charges stemming from that investigation.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer McCanney of the Special Victims Unit prosecuted this case.
