Guilty Plea in Albany County Check Fraud Scheme






 

 

ALBANY, NY - District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that DAWN RICCIARDI, 40, of Troy, NY, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class D Violent Felony, and JASON KENNEDY, 37, of Troy, NY, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C Armed Violent Felony, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court this morning. 

On October 16, 2017, at approximately 6:50 PM, at 911 Central Avenue (Sally Beauty Supply), in the City of Albany, KENNEDY did forcibly steal money from Sally Beauty Supply. KENNEDY did conspire with RICCIARDI to commit an armed robbery. They were staying at the Motel 6 in Watervliet, and walked to Westgate Plaza, where KENNEDY entered the store with a bb gun that looked real, pointed it at the clerk’s face and demanded money. He stated, “Give me everything in the register and don’t tell anyone or I am going to KILL you”. RICCIARDI stayed outside of the store acting as a look out. RICCIARDI and KENNEDY gave full confessions to the crime. 

RICCIARDI faces up to 3 years in State Prison, to be followed by 3 years of Post-Release Supervision when sentenced on JANUARY 3, 2018.

KENNEDY faces up to 6 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post-Release Supervision, when sentenced on JANUARY 3, 2018

ALBANY, NY –
District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that JAHQUEL ROBERTSON, 22, of Albany, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Forgery Device in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, and (1) Count of Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, a Class E Felony, before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court this morning.

Between March and October of 2017, ROBERTSON did perpetuate a check fraud scheme that plagued numerous banks and Price Chopper branches throughout Albany County, commencing investigations by numerous law enforcement agencies including the US Postal Inspectors, New York State Police, Colonie PD, Albany PD, Guilderland PD, Bethlehem PD, Cohoes PD, and Watervliet PD.

Specifically, on September 29, 2017, during the execution of a search warrant at the ROBERTSON’S residence, a laptop was recovered containing many of the forged checks produced and used over the past year. The loss sustained by the victim banks and Price Chopper branches is estimated to be approximately $90,000.00. 

ROBERSTON faces 3 2/3 -11 years in State Prison when sentenced on January 8, 2018.
