Sentencing in Albany County

Hate Crime Against Elderly

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that FRANK CHRYSLER, 49, of Watervliet, was sentenced to 6 to 12 years in State Prison, before the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court this morning.

On November 06, 2017, CHRYSLER pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, as a Hate Crime, a Class C Felony.

On October 10, 2014, at approximately 9:30 a.m., at the First Niagara Bank located on New Loudon Road in Latham, CHRYSLER stole property valued in excess of $3,000, and did intentionally select the person against whom the offense was committed due to her age. CHRYSLER brought a person who was known to him, who suffers from a decreased mental state, to the bank on two separate occasions and had her withdraw $5,000 on each occasion. CHRYSLER then took said amount without permission to do so. All transactions are on video.

Between February and November of 2014, CHRYSLER, along with other co-conspirators, HENRY HICKS, JOHN WATERSON, SUSAN BARR, BRIAN BARR, JOHN RISTO, and, JESSICA PARADISO, performed work under false pretenses for victims at their respective homes. The group targeted various elderly victims throughout Albany County in the Towns of Bethlehem and Colonie, and the City of Albany. The estimated theft from all victims was in excess of $40,000. CHRYSLER is the last of the co-defendants to be sentenced. More information about this case can be found here

CHRYSLER was also ordered today to pay $25,000 in restitution to the victims.

Street Crimes Unit Bureau Chief Jessica Blain-Lewis prosecuted this case.
