Drug Trafficker Sentenced for Illegal Weapons

and Drug Charges

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that FAQIR RASUL, 27, of Albany, was sentenced to 12 years in State Prison, to be followed by 3 years of Post Release Supervision, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court this morning.

On March 7, 2018, RASUL pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, a Class A-II Felony, and (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Armed Violent Felony.

On April 4, 2017, at a residence on Green Street in the City of Albany, RASUL sold more than half an ounce of cocaine to an individual who was known to him. This sale was made during the course of an investigation to uncover narcotics trafficking in the City of Albany. Detectives of the Albany Police Department then executed search warrants at the residence where the sale took place, as well as a residence on Magnolia Terrace in the City of Albany where RASUL was listed as residing at.

In the residence on Green Street detectives recovered nearly 900 grams of cocaine, a quantity of US currency as well as over 20 pounds of marijuana. Upon entry to the house, RASUL was found seated in front of the marijuana dividing it up into large one-pound bags. The search warrant for the residence on Magnolia Terrace yielded two loaded firearms, one of which was found to contain RASUL’s DNA, in addition to approximately 6 grams of cocaine, a cocaine press, and a ballistic vest that had previously been stolen from the City of Troy Police Department.

RASUL was previously sentenced to 7 years in State Prison after pleading guilty to (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony, for possession of approximately 510 grams of cocaine in a 2011 case out of Albany County, and at the time of the current arrest RASUL was under post-release supervision stemming from that conviction.

Assistant District Attorney Alexander Scher of the Street Crimes Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
