DiNapoli Opticians Ex-Employee Sentenced

 for Contact Lens Fraud

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that KATHLEEN LITCHFIELD, 42, of Cohoes, was sentenced to 6 months in Albany County Jail, to be followed by 5 years of Probation, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court this afternoon. LITCHFIELD repaid $14,367.00 today for the amount owed in NYS taxes, and was additionally ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $29,739.99 by the Court today.

On February 8, 2018, LITCHFIELD pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Attempted Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, and (1) Count of Tax Fraud in the Fourth Degree, a Class E Felony.

Over a period of years between 2013 and 2016, LITCHFIELD was employed at DiNapoli Opticians in the Town of Colonie, where she stole in excess of $225,000 dollars’ worth of contact lenses and sold them to profit herself. LITCHFIELD did not declare this excess income on her tax filings for the years that she benefitted from the scheme. An investigation conducted by the New York State Police Financial Crimes Unit and the Colonie Police Department led to LITCHFIELD’s arrest and prosecution.

Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Mastaitis of the Financial Crimes Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
