Guilty Plea in Guilderland Masked Burglar Case


ALBANY, NY- District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that BRIAN BELONCIK, 56, of Rotterdam, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony, before the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court on Friday, September 7, 2018.

On April 21, 2018, at approximately 12:45 A.M., BELONCIK unlawfully entered an unoccupied dwelling on Western Avenue in the Town of Guilderland. When the home owner returned, BELONCIK hid in the bathroom. After waiting for an hour, BELONCIK left the bathroom while wearing a mask. He then brandished a knife and fled the scene. BELONCIK was later apprehended with the victim’s property in his pockets, along with multiple knives and a ski mask.

BELONCIK faces 6 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post-Release Supervision, when sentenced on October 19, 2018.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.
