Man Found in Illegal Possession of

Several Guns Sentenced

ALBANY, NY- District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that MUJAHID BOYD, 25, of Albany, was sentenced to 11 years in State Prison, to be followed by 2 ½ years of Post-Release Supervision, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court this morning.

On July 31, 2018, BOYD pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Armed Violent Felony.

On September 30, 2017, in the area of South Pearl Street in the City of Albany, officers of the New York State Police initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle being driven by BOYD traveling at 91 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun underneath the rear seat inside the vehicle. BOYD confessed that he was in illegal possession of the gun.

In a separate incident on October 6, 2017, in the area of Lexington and Sheridan Avenues in the City of Albany, officers of the Albany Police Department initiated a traffic stop after observing traffic violations from a car being driven by BOYD. BOYD refused to lower the window as officers were approaching the vehicle during the stop. BOYD then drove off at a high rate of speed through a red light and the vehicle struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and made a full recovery. BOYD was apprehended nearby. The Albany Police Department executed a search warrant at BOYD’s residence and recovered a loaded handgun, a loaded shotgun, and a bullet proof vest determined to be illegally possessed by BOYD.

Assistant District Attorney Megan Spillane of the Street Crimes Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
