 Repeat Offender Pleads Guilty to Driving While

Impaired by Drugs






ALBANY, NY - District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that SARA NEFF, 39 , of Voorheesville, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, a Class E Felony, and (1) Count of Violation of Probation, an E Felony, before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court this morning.

On September 19, 2018, while traveling on Interstate 90 in the City of Albany, officers of the New York State Police responded to a car crash in which NEFF was involved. At the scene, officers observed NEFF to be highly impaired by prescription medication. At the time of the incident NEFF was serving a term of Probation for a previous drunk driving conviction where she had a child in her vehicle.

On July 9, 2018, NEFF was sentenced to 5 years of probation after pleading guilty to (1) Count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated; Child in Vehicle, for an incident that occurred in 2017.

NEFF faces 1 1/3 to 4 years in State Prison on the September 19, 2018 arrest, and a concurrent (1) year in Albany County Jail for the Violation of Probation charge, when sentenced on January 3, 2019. Additionally, NEFF will be subject to a minimum 1 year license revocation subject to Department of Motor Vehicle determinations, and a $1,000 fine.

“This defendant continues to demonstrate that she is unable to operate a motor vehicle safely on our roadways. Her actions not only endangered the drivers on Albany County roadways, but also the lives of those closest to her,” commented DA David Soares.

Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief Mary Tanner-Richter is handling the prosecution of this case.
