Guilty Verdict after Albany Kidnapping and

 Rape Trial

ALBANY, NY- District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that ABDUL TROWELL, 34, of Albany, was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) Count of Kidnapping in the Second Degree, As A Class B Sexually Motivated Felony, (1) Count of Rape in the First Degree, a Class B Felony, and (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Class D Felony, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court Monday evening.

After hearing evidence and witness testimony over a week-long trial, jurors concluded that during the early morning hours of November 6, 2017, near a residence on Eagle Street in the City of Albany, TROWELL abducted an unconscious adult female from a vehicle and brought her to his Eagle Street residence for the purpose of his own direct sexual gratification. The jury found that, while inside his apartment with the still unconscious female victim, TROWELL possessed and displayed a knife with the intent to use it unlawfully against the victim’s male friend, while demanding that he leave the apartment and leave the unconscious female behind. The jury also concluded that TROWELL subsequently engaged in sexual intercourse with the female who remained unconscious and therefore was physically helpless.

TROWELL faces up to 50 years in State Prison when sentenced on December 10, 2018.

Special Victims Unit Bureau Chief Shannon Sarfoh is handling the prosecution of this case.
