 Jurors Return Guilty Verdict


in Illegal Gun Possession Case


ALBANY, NY - District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that WALTER HUGHES, 30, of Albany, was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court this afternoon.

On December 5, 2017, a search warrant was executed at HUGHES’ home on Third Street in the City of Albany, which uncovered an illegally possessed firearm that was previously reported stolen. At the time of the incident HUGHES was barred from owning a firearm based on a previous criminal conviction.

HUGHES was continued on bail and faces up to 3 ½ to 7 years in State Prison when sentenced on January 28, 2019.
