  Jury Returns Guilty Verdict in Motel 6 Attempted Murder Trial 

                          



ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that MALIEK LEWIS, 27, of Albany, was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) Count of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, a Class A-I Felony, (1) Count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, (1) Count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a Class C Armed Violent Felony, (1) Count of Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B Armed Violent Felony, (1) Count of Burglary in the first Degree, a Class B Armed Violent Felony, and (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Armed Violent Felony, before the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court this afternoon.

After thorough deliberation and review of the presented evidence during the trial, the jury found that on March 26, 2018, at approximately 12:02 AM, at 100 Watervliet Avenue Extension, Motel 6 in the City of Albany, LEWIS, with the intent to cause the death of the victim, attempted to cause the death of said victim while in the course of committing or attempting to commit a robbery and was in illegal possession of a loaded firearm. Specifically, on the above stated date, time, and location, LEWIS was armed with a semi-automatic pistol when he forcibly stole property from the victim after an altercation that resulted in the victim sustaining one gunshot wound to the leg and other serious physical injuries. The victim was treated for their injuries and survived the incident.

LEWIS faces 25 years to Life in State Prison when sentenced on March 22, 2019.
