ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that TRAVIS SMITH, 23, of Albany, was sentenced to 17 to 19 years in State Prison, before the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court this morning.

On April 22, 2019, SMITH was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) Count of Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B Armed Violent Felony, (1) Count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony, (1) Count of Attempted Bribing a Witness, a Class E Felony, and (1) Count of Tampering with a Witness in the Fourth Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

After hearing evidence at trial the jury found that on December 13, 2017, at approximately 11:30 P.M., in the area of the 60th block of Dove Street in the City of Albany, SMITH acting in concert with others, forcibly stole approximately $315.00 and a wallet from the victim. During the course of the robbery one of the participants was armed with a deadly weapon ultimately leading to the victim being shot. The victim sustained serious physical injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. An investigation conducted by the Albany Police Department led to SMITH’S arrest on January 2, 2018. On January 3, 2018, at the Albany County Correctional Facility in the Town of Colonie, SMITH while acting in concert with another, attempted to offer the victim a sum of US currency upon an understanding that the victim would absent himself from appearing or testifying at any proceeding related to the above stated incident.

Assistant District Attorneys Joseph Brucato and Collin D’Arcy handled the prosecution of this case.
