   25 Years to Life Sentence

in Albany Murder Case

                            


ALBANY, NY -  District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that SHA-MEL RUSH, 27, of Albany, was sentenced before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Supreme Court today to 25 years to Life in State Prison for his role in the November 8, 2018 shooting death of Ty-son Williams. RUSH was additionally sentenced to a consecutive term of imprisonment of 1 1/3 to 4 years for a previous illegal weapon possession charge.


RUSH previously pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-II Felony. RUSH admitted that on November 8, 2018, at approximately 11:30 PM, in the area of Phillip Street and Park Avenue in the City of Albany, with the intent to cause the death of an individual, he did cause the death of Ty-son Williams by means of shooting him. In addition, RUSH did allocute that he conspired with one or more persons to assist, aid and participate in the killing of Ty-son Williams in the City of Albany in exchange for money from another person.

Charges of (1) Count of Murder in the First Degree, as a Class A-I Felony, (1) Count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-II Felony, and (1) Count of Conspiracy in the Second Degree, a Class B Felony, against co-defendant ISIS KNIGHT, 24, of Albany, remain open and pending at this time. A trial date for KNIGHT has been set for December 9, 2019.


Street Crimes Unit Bureau Chief Jessica Blain-Lewis and Assistant District Attorney Michael Wetmore are handling the prosecution of this case.
