Sentencing in Albany Robbery Case

ALBANY, NY - District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that JAQUAN SCOTT, 21, of Albany, was sentenced to 20 years in State Prison, before the Honorable Roger McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court this morning.

On November 1, 2019, SCOTT was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) Count of Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, and (2) Counts of Robbery in the Second Degree, each Class C Felonies.

After hearing witness testimony and evidence presented during trial this week, the jury concluded that on July 31, 2018, at approximately 2:30 A.M., SCOTT, along with co-defendant JOHN THAXTON (AKA TAYVON JOHNSON), brandished a knife and forcibly stole property from an adult male victim who was not known to them while in the area of 293 Ontario Street in the City of Albany. In addition, the jury found that on August 3, 2018, at approximately 7:30 P.M., SCOTT and THAXTON forcibly stole property from an unknown adult female victim who was not known to them in a residence on Partridge Street in the City of Albany.

Co-Defendant JOHN THAXTON (AKA TAYVON JOHNSON), 19, also of Albany, was found guilty of the same charges following a jury trial on September 20, 2019 and sentenced to 25 years in State Prison in November 2019.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato and Assistant District Attorney Collin D’Arcy prosecuted this case.
