Manslaughter Plea Entered for Death of

6 Week Old Infant Who Died From

Methamphetamine Exposure

ALBANY, NY -  District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that ANTHONY OJEDA, 39, of Cohoes, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, before Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Supreme Court this morning for his role in the manslaughter of 6 week old Eli Ojeda-Harmon.

On December 3, 2019, at a residence on Vanvechten Street in the City of Cohoes, OJEDA recklessly caused the death of 6 week old baby in his care. Under OJEDA’s care, the child ingested methamphetamine, and prompt medical care was not sought for the child while the child was exhibiting obvious distress, including but not limited to vomiting, discoloration to his body, eyes rolling in the back of his head, and lethargy. Emergency medical services were eventually called and the infant victim was pronounced deceased at an area hospital later that day.

OJEDA faces 3 to 9 years in State Prison when sentenced on March 16, 2021.

Assistant District Attorney Caroline Murray is handling the prosecution of this case.
