WORDS Anti-Bullying Program Monthly Grand

Prize Winner Announced

ALBANY, NY –  Albany County District Attorney David Soares announced the March 2015 monthly grand prize winner for the WORDS Anti-Bullying contest today.  Of the many great submissions that we received throughout the month of March, there were four students who stood out and won the weekly prizes for submitting their “Acts of Kindness” to our website.

Over the past weeks, we accepted votes for these four submissions on our website, and we sincerely thank all of the people who voted for each of these four outstanding entries.  Each one of these votes was valued and showed great support for these students and for this campaign.

When people engage in Acts of Kindness, we all win.

And the March 2015 Monthly Grand Prize Winner is….

ZAEQWAN CANCER! Zaeqwan, a 9th grade student from Albany High School, received the most votes for his submission.  Zaeqwan has shown his commitment to the WORDS campaign by helping families carry strollers up and down stairs during the Hannaford's KidzExpo at Empire State Plaza. Great Job Zaeqwan!

While there can only be one grand prize winner selected each month, we encourage all students to continue to submit their Acts of Kindness throughout the year.  We will continue to select weekly winners and will be publically announcing grand prize winners at the end of each month throughout the year.

Zaeqwan joins our February Monthly Winner Paul Criscione of St. Pius X School, January Monthly Winner William Connors of Bethlehem Central Middle School, December Monthly Winner Mckenzie Murphy of Westmere Elementary School, November Monthly Winner Amari Cady of Albany High School and October Monthly Winner Jacob Haley of Lisha Kill Middle School as our Monthly Grand Prize Winners.  Information about past winners can be found on our WORDS website.

About WORDS:

WORDS is a new and dynamic county-wide campaign to combat bullying in our communities.  The Office of the Albany County District Attorney is asking every student in the County of Albany to help eliminate bullying by participating in the WORDS campaign. Every student in our county has the power to eliminate bullying today by using positive and empowering WORDS towards one another. Positive WORDS can change the conversation, the culture of bullying, the culture of violence, and the culture of hate.

“The Office of the Albany County District Attorney is accustomed to holding our young offenders who harm others and harm our community accountable. We often highlight the legal outcomes through the media. Outside of the legal system, it is disturbing how often I see our youth portrayed in the most negative light.  Through the WORDS campaign we hope to highlight the great and many wonderful things being done by our youth throughout Albany County,” said DA David Soares.

The Albany County District Attorney’s Office is calling on Albany County Students to not only join the WORDS campaign, but to put their WORDS into action by engaging in Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK). With parental approval, students are then asked to record these acts of kindness via Facebook, Vine, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr, other social media, artwork, photo, or video, and submit them to our WORDS Page at

A winner will be selected each week and will receive a WORDS SWAG BAG, which includes t-shirt, water bottle, headband, shoe strings, and many other cool prizes. The weekly winner and their submission will be highlighted on our website and social media accounts. In addition, each weekly winner will have an opportunity to win the Monthly Grand Prize.

At the end of every month, communities will be asked to put their WORDS into action by visiting our website and voting for their favorite WORDS Weekly Winners.  The monthly WORDS Winner will receive an APPLE TECHNOLOGY SUITE including customized bEATS headphones.

The WORDS campaign is open to any student enrolled in and attending a school located in ALBANY COUNTY. School Administrators are encouraged to contact the Albany County District Attorney’s Outreach Office at (518) 275-4735 for more information. We look forward to partnering with students throughout Albany County as we work together to end bullying. We look forward to seeing your acts of kindness change our community.  Your WORDS matter.

Please visit and click on the WORDS logo for detailed participation rules.
