Youth Advisory Board

The Office of the Albany County District Attorney’s Youth Advisory Board is a group of dynamic young people of diverse backgrounds from throughout Albany County.

• The goal of the advisory board is for young people to provide us with recommendations into our current and future youth crime prevention/interdiction programming (community outreach, youth events and initiatives, etc.).

• In addition, the advisory board is called on from time to time to provide guidance on cases where their input is helpful to the process.

• Above all we hope to gain knowledge from their youth spirited outlook, obtain insight into young people, and in turn provide them with a fun and educational experience, where they have an opportunity to serve as leaders, while providing a tremendous benefit to the Office and the community.

Previous Years' Youth Advisory Board Projects:

The first ever Youth Advisory Board was instituted for the 2011-2012 school year.  This Board launched a campaign in February 2012 to combat teen dating violence in honor of Teen Dating Violence Awareness month.  The teens were able to collaborate with local domestic violence agencies on the project and brought the information back to their respective schools to share with administration and students.

The 2012-2013 Board focused on issues surrounding Bullying, and developed a campaign to promote Random Acts of Kindness.  In the Spring of 2013 an art display featuring Random Acts of Kindness tress was featured in the Concourse of the Empire State Plaza.  Read about it here!

The 2013-2014 Board focused on Cyber-Bullying Awareness and Prevention. Please click here to learn about tools and resources about bullying and cyber-bullying developed by the board.

The 2014-2015 Board focused on youth involvement in bystander intervention, including the role of bystanders in sexual assault awareness, bullying, and relationship dating violence.

The 2015-2016 Board is currently meeting and is focusing on collaborative social justice outreach projects in Albany County, including accessibility for under-served populations.

The 2016-2017 Board focused on evaluating the YAB experience.  The group created a research and experience based "Youth Advisory Board Handbook" for future groups to model their terms after.
