ALBANY, NY - District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that JONATHAN MATTICE, 42, of Sharon Springs, NY, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Attempted Rape in the Second Degree, a Class E Felony, and (2) Counts of Attempted Criminal Sexual Act in the Second Degree, each Class E Felonies, before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court this morning.
On June 14, 2018, MATTICE traveled to a residence in the Town of Colonie, in an attempt to engage in sexual intercourse and oral sexual conduct with a female he believed to be fourteen years old. MATTICE previously met a person he believed to be a fourteen year old girl on an online website and continued to communicate with her via text message. He proceeded to discuss engaging in multiple sexual acts with the child and ultimately drove to what he believed to be the girl’s apartment when her mother was not home to engage in these acts. The person on the other end of the conversation was actually a member of law enforcement.
The trial against MATTICE was slated to begin this morning in Albany County Court. MATTICE faces between 1 ½ to 4 years in State Prison with up to 10 years of Parole Supervision, when sentenced on January 10, 2020. In addition, MATTICE will be mandated to register as a Sex Offender upon release.
