Guilty Verdict after Attempted Robbery

 at Bus Stop

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that ELHADJ GUEYE, 25, of Albany, was found guilty after a bench trial of (1) Count of Attempted Robbery in the Third Degree, a Class E Felony, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court yesterday afternoon.

On March, 30, 2017 at approximately 2:26 P.M., while near a bus stop at Washington Avenue and North Hawk Street in the City of Albany, GUEYE approached a person who was not known to him who had just been riding the bus as a passenger. GUEYE forcibly placed the victim in a “headlock” by wrapping his arms around the victim’s neck, and proceeded to drag the victim to the ground while stating “turn out your pockets!” The victim was able to break free from GUEYE and call the police. The incident left the victim with prolonged injury to his shoulder.

GUEYE faces up to 1 1/3 to 4 years in State Prison when sentenced on July 3, 2018.

Assistant District Attorney Shanza Malik and Assistant District Attorney Davia Newell handled the prosecution of this case.
