Second Alleged Shooter Charged

in Albany Murder

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that JAHMERE MANNING, 19, of Albany, was arraigned on (1) Count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-1 Felony, (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Armed Violent Felony, and (1) Count of Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a Class D Felony, before the Honorable John Reilly in Albany City Court this morning. MANNING pleaded not guilty to the charges and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Friday June 11, 2021.

MANNING was taken into custody yesterday by members of the Albany Police Department. At the time of his arrest, MANNING was out on bail for a previous alleged illegal possession of a weapon case that is still open and pending. Due to that case and the new arrest, MANNING was remanded by the Court today.

The charges allege that on May 3, 2021, at approximately 2:50 P.M., while in the area of Essex Street in the City of Albany, MANNING recklessly caused the death of 18-year-old Chyna Forney by means of shooting her with an illegally possessed firearm.

An Albany County Grand Jury previously returned an indictment against alleged co-defendant ALVIN FOY, 18, of Albany in relation to this fatal shooting. FOY was previously arraigned on (2) Counts of Murder in the Second Degree, as Class A-1 Felonies, (1) Count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, (2) Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, each Class C Armed Violent Felonies, and (2) Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, each Class D Violent Felonies, before the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Court on May 24, 2021. FOY pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody without bail. No new appearance dates have been scheduled by the Court at this time.

During the afternoon of May 3, 2021, Albany Police responded to the call of a daylight shooting on Essex Street and upon arrival observed a victim who had been shot in the back, along with over 40 spent bullet casings on the ground. Several cars in the area were also struck with bullets during the shootings. An investigation led by the Albany Police Department uncovered that alleged co-defendants FOY and MANNING were allegedly shooting towards an adult male who was an intended target when Forney was struck and killed.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Shanley is handling the prosecution of these cases.
