Arraignment in Fatal Westerlo Crash

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that ANDREW R. GIBSON, 42, of Westerlo, was arraigned on charges of (2) Counts of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, as Class B Felonies, (1) Count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, and (2) Counts of Aggravated Vehicular Assault, as Class C Felonies, before Justice Kenneth Mackey in Westerlo Town Court last evening.

Charges filed with the Court allege that in the afternoon of May 16, 2021, GIBSON was allegedly driving recklessly while intoxicated on County Route 401 in the Town of Westerlo when he crashed into a motorcycle and another vehicle. The crashes caused the death of 55 year old Lisa Sperry of Westerlo and caused additional serious physical injury to (4) other people.

GIBSON pleaded not guilty to the charges at arraignment last night and was held in custody overnight. A bail hearing was held in Albany County Court today where $160k bond was set by the Court. GIBSON posted the bond and was released. No new appearance dates have been scheduled by the Court at this time.

Vehicular Crimes Unit Chief Mary Tanner-Richter and Assistant District Attorney Collin D’Arcy are handling the prosecution of this case.
