Aggravated Vehicular Homicide Indictment

 Unsealed in Christmas 2019 Fatal Colonie Crash

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that VEESHRAM RAMDEO, 19, of Schenectady, was arraigned before the Honorable Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Court this morning in relation to a fatal crash that took place on Christmas Day 2019 on Central Avenue in the Town of Colonie.

An Albany County Grand jury previously returned sealed charges of (1) Count of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, a Class B Felony, (1) Count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, and (2) Counts of Assault in the Second Degree, each Class D Violent Felonies.

The indictment unsealed today alleges that on December 25, 2019, at approximately 7:01 A.M., in the area of 2141 Central Avenue in the Town of Colonie, RAMDEO was recklessly driving at a high rate of speed while impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol when he crashed in to a utility pole. The crash left one passenger dead, and caused serious physical injury to the remaining two passengers.

RAMDEO pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released under the supervision of the Department of Probation pending a next court appearance on November 1, 2021.

Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief Mary Tanner-Richter is handling the prosecution of this case.
