Public Social Media Use Policy and Disclaimer

The Albany County District Attorney’s Office uses several internet and social media tools, including our Website, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to educate and inform the public about the latest news releases and initiatives of the office, and about trends and issues affecting the citizens of Albany County.  We use these tools in addition to working with the media.  Updates are also sometimes posted by staff at the District Attorney’s Office Community Justice and Outreach Center.

While communicating with the DA’s Office through social media enables you to contact us in a direct and meaningful way, we do not monitor these sites 24 hours a day.  As such, all formal emergencies and complaints must be reported through traditional means.  In the event of an actual emergency all parties are encouraged to dial 911.  Other formal complaints can be directed to our office during regular business hours via phone (518-487-5460), mail (District Attorney P. David Soares, Albany County Judicial Center, 6 Lodge Street, Albany, NY 12207), or fax (518-487-5093).

Communications made to a social media site will not be considered formal public comment and shall not constitute official legal notice to the DA’s Office or requests for records under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL).  Such submissions will not be acknowledged and should be directed to the formal FOIL process through the Albany County Clerk’s Office.

Please note that the Albany County DA’s Office social media sites pages are located within host sites that maintain their own terms of service, terms of use, privacy policies or other rules (“Terms of Service”, TOS) governing the use of these sites.
