Arraignment in Connection with Cohoes Shooting Homicide

The indictment alleges that on or about August 11, 2023, while on Main Street in the City of Cohoes, Sealy caused the death of Shieer Leggett by shooting him with a firearm.
A superseding indictment was unsealed this afternoon before the Hon. Andra Ackerman, charging 25-year-old Nalik Sealy of South Carolina with One Count of Murder in the Second Degree, One Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and He pleaded Not Guilty, and was remanded to the Albany County Jail.
The indictment alleges that on or about August 11, 2023, while on Main Street in the City of Cohoes, Sealy caused the death of Shieer Leggett by shooting him with a firearm. Additionally, the defendant is accused of possessing an illegal handgun at the same location, at the same date and time.
The defendant remains in the Albany County Correctional Facility, and will next appear in court on March 13, 2024 at 2 p.m.
Co-defendant Dontie Mitchell, 43, of Albany, previously pleaded Not Guilty to One Count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, and One Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. He was remanded without bail and will next appear in court on Februaru 28, 2024.
While some of the initial charges against both defendants were dismissed, that dismissal was based on a legal technicality unrelated to the quality or quantity of the proof.
Assistant District Attorney Jessica Blain-Lewis is handling the prosecution of this case.
