7 Year in Prison for Police Officer Assaults

April 10, 2024

Yesterday’s sentence comes after his January 29, 2024 conviction of Two Counts of Assault in the Second Degree.

Albany, NY – 24-year-old Courtland Hall of Troy was sentenced to concurrent terms (to be served at the same time) of 7 years in State Prison, and 3 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, before the Hon. William Little in Albany County Court yesterday morning.

Yesterday’s sentence comes after his January 29, 2024 conviction of Two Counts of Assault in the Second Degree.

The indictment alleged that on or about March 21, 2023, in the area of Morton Ave and South Pearl Street in the City of Albany, he injured Albany Police Officers Arber Dragoj and Brian Plante, in an attempt to prevent them from performing their lawful duties.

Specifically, Hall was convicted of interrupting an active investigation during which, both officers were attempting to confiscate an illegal, loaded firearm from an unrelated person.

Detective Plante said: “Courtland Hall made the conscious decision to brutally assault us on that day, and has never shown remorse. Instead he has tried to blame this on us, and tried to make it look like we provoked him in some way. His actions, along with his statements after his assault show that he had clear intent to cause physical harm to myself and my partners just because we were police officers”

Detective Dragoj said: “I have been a police officer for a long time and throughout my career I have had many incidents involving physical altercations, but I have never been assaulted in that manner, and with clear intent to cause physical harm to myself and my partners just because we were police officers.”

Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato, the Bureau Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, handled the prosecution of this case.
