Indictment Unsealed in Fatal State Route 85 Crash

His charges are as follows: -Manslaughter in the Second Degree -Assault in the Second Degree -Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree -Driving While Intoxicated, per se -Driving While Ability Impaired by the Combined Influence of Drugs or of Alcohol and Any Drug -Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree
Bethlehem, NY – 29-year-old Matthew Monthie of Clifton Park pleaded not guilty to a six-count indictment before the Hon. William Little in Albany County Court this morning. His charges are as follows:
-Manslaughter in the Second Degree
-Assault in the Second Degree
-Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree
-Driving While Intoxicated, per se
-Driving While Ability Impaired by the Combined Influence of Drugs or of Alcohol and Any Drug
-Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree
Specifically, the indictment alleges that on or about May 1, 2024, while on State Route 85 in the Town of Bethlehem, Monthie drove recklessly, under the combined influence of drugs and alcohol, and caused the death of Shawna Marzahl.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $75,000 partially secured bond. If the defendant posts bail, he will be released under the supervision of probation with an Electronic Monitor. Additionally, his driver’s license has been suspended, pending the outcome of this case.
Assistant District Attorneys Elizabeth Jektyan and Mary Tanner-Richter, the Bureau Chief of the Vehicular Crimes Unit, are handling the prosecution of this case.
All parties are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty
