Arraignment in June 2023 Albany Homicide

The indictment alleged that on or about June 22, 2023, while in the area of Third Street in the City of Albany, Chapman caused the death of Javone Sims.

Albany, NY – 18-year-old Eric Chapman Jr. of Albany pleaded Not Guilty to One Count of Murder in the Second Degree, and One Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree before the Hon. Andra Ackerman in Albany County Court this morning.


The indictment alleged that on or about June 22, 2023, while in the area of Third Street in the City of Albany, Chapman caused the death of Javone Sims. Additionally, Chapman is accused of possessing an illegal, loaded firearm on the same date, and at the same location.


The defendant was remanded, and will next appear in court on August 2, 2024.


Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato, the Bureau Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, and ADA Nicholas Pittari are handling the prosecution of this case.


All parties are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty
