Murder Indictment Unsealed in Albany Case

An indictment alleges that on or about January 1, 2024, in the area of 36 Judson Street in the City of Albany, Stanfield caused the death of another person.

Albany, NY – 42-year-old John Stanfield of Albany pleaded Not Guilty to One Count of Murder in the Second Degree, and One Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, before the Hon. Roger McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court this afternoon.


An indictment alleges that on or about January 1, 2024, in the area of 36 Judson Street in the City of Albany, Stanfield caused the death of another person. Specifically, the defendant is accused of causing the death of Ozzie Gardner. Additionally, the defendant is accused of possessing an illegal, loaded firearm on the same date, and at the same location.


Stanfield was remanded and will next appear in court on April 12, 2024.


Assistant District Attorney Collin D’Arcy is handling the prosecution of this case.
